Floyd Mandell, national co-head of the Intellectual Property practice and co-head of the Trademarks practice, will participate in the discussion “The Shape of Things to Come: Clearing and Protecting High-Tech Product Configurations” at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, May 12. The panelists will address functionality, novelty, acquired distinctiveness and other issues that often arise when securing the rights to the appearance of phones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices. The session will also cover the varying degrees of success of registered and unregistered trademark, trade dress, design patent, copyright and industrial design protections, along with the different regulations involved in clearing—and then protecting—new product designs from country to country.
