Partner Michael Callahan will present the "What Every Medical Staff Professional Needs to Know About Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs)" session at the 40th Annual NAMSS Educational Conference & Exhibition on Monday, September 19 at 12:45 p.m. Michael will explore the upcoming January requirement that hospitals with more than 50 beds providing services to patients covered by state insurance exchanges participate in PSOs under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act. He will discuss key principles, requirements and the scope of protections, while addressing how compliance with this federal law will affect daily responsibilities.

Michael also will present "Legal Update: Review of Key Legal Decisions and Their Impact on Medical Staff Professionals" session later that afternoon at 2:45 p.m. He will discuss major case law and regulatory developments and how they impact the privilege and credentialing of physicians, APNs, and other practitioners. Michael will identify and recommend changes to existing practices, bylaws, and other related policies in order to maximize compliance with standards as well as existing immunity, privilege, and confidentiality protections.
